The most important thing you should know is that a homeowner can be sued for false arrest. That's one good reason to own an umbrella policy. It can provide hundreds of thousands of dollars of insurance protection beyond a standard home insurance policy. It can protect you from rare but realistic threats. These are threats like libel, false arrest and other lawsuits. What would happen if an unruly guest got intoxicated at your home? Would you reasonably attempt to restrain or subdue him? Would you attempt to forcibly prevent him from driving? Setting aside any criminal matters, you could be sued in civil court for false arrest. That's how New Jersey umbrella insurance can protect you.
